Design and build of an administration and railroad equipment and engine maintenance facility on a Naval base. The 7,500 sq/ft administration building included typical open and private office areas, breakroom, file and storage rooms, conference room and restrooms. PWB also provided all of the furniture and fixtures for the facility. The 4,200 sq/ft railroad equipment and engine maintenance facility was built to maintain and inspect locomotives, with the interior railway tracks straddling a concrete inspection pit. The rail maintenance facility required special foundations and force protection requirements. The systems for both buildings included fire and life safety, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, intrusion detection and data and communications. The rail maintenance facility also included a locomotive exhaust system and compressed air. Site work included extensive grading, asphalt paving and parking, concrete aprons, landscaping, site utilities and site security fencing. Included construction of a railroad spur from the main line to facility, a 21KV/12KV electrical substation complete with duct banks and cable, transformers, battery bank and charger, switchgear, fire alarm and security appurtenances, and a locomotive wash rack with a closed loop wash system for water conservation. Although not registered, this project did achieve enough points for LEED Certified.
