Marine Regiment Command Post

Pacific West Builders has recently completed a contract to design and renovate a 2-story Marine Regiment Command Post building at Camp Pendleton. This particular building is very similar to another 2-story Marine Regiment Command Post building at Camp Pendleton that we renovated a year prior. Both buildings required structural upgrades to comply with the latest seismic codes for which Fiber Reinforced Polymers were used extensively. Interior improvements included extensive demolition and hazardous material abatement, new offices, conference rooms, training rooms, lobby/reception area, restrooms, storage facilities and security vaults, and new plumbing, HVAC, electrical, data and communication systems. The exterior work for both buildings consisted of new windows and entry way, repairing and patching of the exterior of the buildings, painting, and the conversion of the existing flat roof to a new, insulated, sloped roof, consisting of a standing seam metal roof on a system of light gauge steel trusses and metal decking. The site work for both buildings included exterior ADA upgrades, regrading around the buildings to improve site drainage, landscaping, raised planter areas and new sewer lines, transformers and power and communication duct banks to the buildings.

Renovation of B-96

Pacific West Builders recently completed the design and renovation of an old maintenance facility and converted it into an operations and command facility for the new Zumwalt Destroyers that have just recently been stationed in San Diego. The facility required structural improvements to the mezzanine, a hardened office area to SCIF requirements, new bathrooms, offices and finishes, new HVAC, electrical, communications and data systems, and new furnishings, fixtures and equipment.

The approximately 4,700 square foot facility was completely gutted, which included hazardous materials abatement. The existing mezzanine had to be structurally modified to accommodate new stairways, an increase in the mezzanine floor area, and the installation of a communications room beneath the mezzanine. The open office area and offices were constructed to SCIFF specifications that included hardened walls, openings, and ceilings. The new openings had to comply with ATFP, which included a new glass storefront entryway into the unsecure area, new windows and emergency exit doors. Existing openings within the cast in place concrete walls had to be securely enclosed using gunite and reinforcing bar to comply with the security requirements for the building. The interior of the building was built out to include several offices and a large open office on the ground floor and on the mezzanine. The existing bathrooms were completely renovated with new finishes, fixtures and accessories.

New systems included electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems, A new fire alarm and mass notification system for the facility was installed along with communications and NIPR for the 50 or so personnel that would be using the facility. New furniture, fixtures and equipment was all a part of the contract.

Exterior work included a new sidewalk and a new 2” water lateral into the building to support the new
restroom fixtures, a new roof system and painting of the exterior of the building.
